Book Update |
February 26, 2008 another update from Rev. Joe Michael Kamau
Dear Partners,
Receive greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I trust that all of you are doing fine as you continue to serve the Lord.
We would like to thank each one of you for all you have done. By putting your love into action you have changed the lives of many of the displaced people who have received help from your donations. Your sacrificial giving has given the body of Jesus Christ in Kenya the ability to help during this terrible situation that we have found ourselves in, with so many needful and helpless people. It reminds me of the historical books that I read some time back about a doctor who went to treat the victims of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs during the second world war. Looking at the many people that he had to treat, he did not know where to start, so he bent down right where he was standing and started with the people right under his feet! With so many people who are helpless and traumatized, I had to begin some where in helping the displaced people. I chose to begin with those who have been working with us or where we have planted churches or even where we have held Evangecube trainings in the past. So far, we have helped or assisted about 1500 people. That is like a drop of water in the ocean. Many people have been calling us and asking what can we do. Yes, the needs are so many, but the Lord will continue to supply every need using different groups and people from all spheres of life. My prayer is for the body of Jesus Christ to keep leading the way.
Pastor Cephas Simiyu from Redeemed Gospel church in Bungoma had this to say after receiving some money from our ministry to buy food and other items for displaced people around that town. Here I quote Pastor Simiyu, “This event that took place on a Sunday while I was preaching. I noticed brother Peter Githinji dealing with a situation. He had been called outside during the service to assist three children who looked very miserable. A girl named Florence, her brother and another girl called Citrine were at the church’s rubbish pit, looking for something to eat. After ministering, the Pastor was told that since the election violence, the mother of these children had never been seen again. They all received food which is part of what you have given. These children are now being helped at the church in Bungoma.”
The mother may be dead and her body may be among hundreds that have been washed into the rivers of Kenya, or her body is among that are rotting in the bushes of Kenya or among those ones not collected from the heaps at the Kenya mortuaries. The children had gone without food several days and they had exhausted every alternative for their survival. As if that was not enough, the landlord is also evicting them out of the house for none payment of rent. Since the most affected are children, it seems as if we will end up having many children moving from street to street looking for help.
Your ministering to Kenyans through prayer and material needs will surely be remembered for along time. The assistance will now make the helpless families be a people among God’s people. We would have sorrowed with them without knowing what to do, but your help came at the right time. We sincerely want to thank you for all you are doing for us during this time.
At the moment Kenya is at the most crucial stage of peace negotiations. The Lord, however, speaks deep down into our hearts (tears and deep groaning are evident) as we pray. I know there will be peace in Kenya, and the body of Jesus Christ is the one to lead the way.
Keep praying for Kenya. We still need your prayers and support. May God bless you in all you have done and what you continue to do.
PRAYER is still the most important thing. Here are some prayer items:
Thank you and may God bless you in all you are doing in standing with us.
Yours In His Service,
