Dear Ankeny Free Church:
A couple weeks ago we had the unpleasant experience of submitting an expense report, only to find out that due to insufficient funds in our reserve account, UWM has to wait to reimburse our ministry expenses. It is kind of like the missionary equivalent of a bounced check. Therefore, we thought we would use this email update to inform you about our current situation and offer an opportunity for you to help.
Falling Dollars...
Unfortunately, no, they are not falling from the trees here. Rather, the value of the dollar compared to the Hungarian Forint (the money we use here) has taken quite a tumble. Since we moved here in August 2006, the value of the dollar has fallen over 26%. Here is the currency chart:

In practical terms, the weakened dollar means that when we stop at the ATM machine on the way to the grocery store, the amount of money that used to pay for a month's worth of food now is only worth enough for 3 weeks.
Decreased Monthly Support
The other significant factor in our depleted ministry account is due to several of our monthly supporters needed to either reduce or discontinue their support. Financial conditions change, both for people as well as for churches and is something that we definitely understand. However, taken together with the weakened dollar, this decrease in monthly support has had an even more pronounced effect.
"How can I help?"
Currently, we are about $500/month short of what we need to cover our living and ministry expenses. Therefore, if you have been thinking about joining our support team on a monthly basis, or perhaps just giving a one-time contribution, this would be a great time to do so.
To make a contribution, you can go to UWM's online giving site here (make sure to include our names and/or missionary #31253), or you can go to our website where you will find more information and instructions.
If you are already supporting us, we just wanted to say thanks again. Without your sacrifice in this uncertain economic environment, we wouldn't be able to serve here in Hungary.
With our love,
John & Zsofi
